Regional Promotion

As a supporting organization for the promotion of the mining town areas, we execute the local community promotion projects to facilitate the economy in the closed mine areas and improve residential conditions in the areas which suffer from deindustrialization due to a drastic decrease in the population and economic contraction since the coal industry rationalization policy was announced.

Urban Regeneration New Deal Projects for Mining Areas

We cooperate with local governments to promote Urban Regeneration New Deal projects specialized for mining areas, attracting private and public investment in closed mine areas, creating local jobs, and strengthening the economic self-reliance of the closed mine areas.

  • UNKRA Mungyeong Factoria (economic base type urban regeneration, 2021-2026)

    Create a space for sports, culture, and arts in the large-scale cement factory, attract eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell power plants (353.2 billion KRW in total)

  • Yeongwol and Deokpo Project (general neighborhood urban regeneration, 2020-2023)

    Create a base for the marsh snail industry and Donggang River ecological trips, create public facilities for local residents using abandoned buildings (33.3 billion KRW in total)

  • ECO JOB CITY Taebaek (economic base type urban regeneration, 2020-2023)

    Attract power plants using abundant unused forest resources, use smart farm energy, promote the first economic-based urban regeneration project in Gangwon province.

New renewable energy Green New Deal projects

We support low carbon green growth by developing clean energy in mine areas while cooperating with related organizations, such as the development of biomass with forest resources, solar power development using mine damage restoration areas, and smart farm using hydrothermal energy from mine drainage

Industrial Promotion

The coal and coal briquetting industry became the cornerstone of Korea's brilliant economic development. We seek ways to stabilize the coal and briquette supply by supporting the coal and briquette industry, come up with measures for converting abandoned mines, nurture alternative industries, the mining industry, and new businesses, provide energy to the vulnerables during the winter, and promote sustainable growth and mutual development with the local community.

Support of the Coal and Briquette Industry

Coal and briquettes have been major energy sources for Korea in the past and are still widely used. We implement coal and briquette support business to maintain a production base for the coal industry to maintain a stable coal supply.

Financial Support for Companies

We provide loans to companies who from startups or relocate to abandoned mining area promotion districts and local mining rights holders, quarrying operators, and mineral processors to support the national mining industry and to promote abandoned mine areas

Support and Management of Corporation Investing in Closed Mine Areas

We establish and manage corporations of replacement industries and contribute to enhancing the quality of life and job creation to promote and facilitate the active economy of the closed mine areas due to the decline in the coal industry.

Fostering new businesses

We are laying legal foundatins to collect rare metals from city mines, recycle mine waste, establish a national core mineral supply platform, and nurture related industries to diversify the source of critical minerals and establish a resource circulation system.

Resource information service

We collect and analyze informations related to six critical minerals and 4th Industry critical minerals to establish a management strategy and predict demands. We provide price prediction service on the six critical minerals and Mineral Index (Mindex) and Market Outlook Index (MOI), developed and patented by KOMIR, in real-time through the national information network resource information service (KOMIS).

Nurturing Professional Manpower

We train professional manpower to expand the base for the mine damage prevention and the mining industry. We support employees to secure expertise and improve their working conditions through national technical qualification examinations and professional education.

National Technical Qualification Examination

We produce talent with practical skills through examinations in the mining industry resource areas (mine damage and resources) in accordance with the government policy that states specialized institutions of the industry shall perform qualification examinations to improve the level of qualification and reflect the reality in the field. According to mine damage prevention and restoration laws and regulations, we continue to provide post- management education to the qualified and hire qualified mine resources managers, which is required when getting a license.

Nurturing Mining Talent

We provide professional training in the mining industry for technical fields such as mining, blasting, and the operation of hydraulic equipment at the Iksan Mining Center to support, promote, and nurture the mineral resources industry. Since 2014, we recruite trainees for those programs three times a year. It is operated as a consigned project of national key and strategic industries worker training by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Mine safety education

Safety education became mandatory for mine workers, according to the Mine Safety Act enacted in 2017. We provide education on disaster prevention, standard work procedures and raise safety awareness at the Taebaek Mining Safety Center and the Iksan Mining Center throughout all year.
